Adopt A Highway Cleanup, May 12th

Adpot a Highway Flier

AssalamuAlaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,

The Prophet (S.A.W.) said, “…Removing harmful things from the pathway is charity.” [Reported by Imams Bukhari and Muslim]

Building Blocks is now an Adopt-A-Highway sponsor!

Alhamdulillah, We were able to secure a 1.5 mile section of Hwy 136 (Silver Lake Road) as an Adopt-A-Highway location for Building Blocks. Having this spot in St. Anthony is not only a great opportunity to earn the pleasure of Allah by cleaning up our community, it’s also a chance for dawah.BB Adopt a Highway Sign

Neighbors will see the Building Blocks of Islam name and might wonder who we are; let’s show them we are caring citizens who value community service.

Join us for our first Spring Cleanup on Saturday, May 12. About 15-20 volunteers from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to help clean up trash and debris from this 1.5 mile stretch of roadway. Supplies and refreshments will be provided.

Please sign up here to get your name on the volunteer list.

Who We Are: Ramadan Dinner 2018

“Had Allah willed, He would have made you one nation [united in religion], but [He intended] to test you in what He has given you;so race to [all that is] good. To Allah is your return, andHe will inform you concerning that over which you used to differ.”
(Surah Al-Ma’idah, 5:48)

As-salamu alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu,

We are so honored to welcome once again our Special Guest, our dearest Ramadan, in just a few short weeks. We ask that you reflect upon the ayah above and help us show the community Who We Are by racing to all that is good during this season of giving.

Today in America, we are allowing others to define us, whether it be through the media, public schools, or other avenues. It is time we tell our own stories of how the faith, family, and friendships we treasure make us more than just a headline.

Join us on Sunday, May 27 at Mounds View Community Center for a very special iftar. Click here to reserve your seats (just $10 each for those age 12 and over, which can be paid at the door). Free Babysitting will be provided

Support projects which benefit the community, educate others about Islam, and help those in need regardless of faith. Through these public activities, we can show our neighbors that we are more than what they see in the news; we are Minnesotans.
Help us this Ramadan as we strive to show our neighbors Who We Are.

Homeschooling 101, Sat May 6th 2018

Want to homeschool, but don’t know where to start?

Worried about finding the right curriculum? Socialization? How they will get into college? And, what’s a virtual school anyway?

These questions and more will be answered, in sha Allah.

Our workshop facilitator, Sr. Shannen Espelien, has been homeschooling her children since 2009, first in a Virtual School, then in a traditional homeschool since 2011. She has led several Homeschool 101 workshops in the past and maintains a blog on homeschooling and parenting for Muslims. You can learn more about Sr. Shannen’s work at www.middlewaymom.com.

This free workshop takes place in the basement meeting hall of the ARAHA building where the Building Blocks office is located.

Feed the Hungry, Nourish A Soul: Food Drive 2018

What can you buy at the grocery store for $5?

Today, a loaf of bread and some cheese is about all you can get for a five-dollar bill.

At Building Blocks, we can buy so much more with your donations—five times more, in fact! Thanks to our partnerships with groups like Second Harvest Heartland and local food distributors, we are able to buy $25 worth of food for just $5. That’s more than enough to feed a family for a day.

Give from your heart and help us feed families in need during our annual food drive.

  • Your $1,000 can buy food for 100 families.
  • Your $500 can buy food for 50 families.
  • Your $100 can buy food for 10 families.
  • Your $50 can buy food for 5 families.

Donate now and multiply your reward: http://thebuildingblocks.org/donate-now/. You can also donate non-perishable food items at participating locations.

Free Health Screenings, Oct 16 to Dec 11

The Prophet (saw) advised us“Take benefit of five before five: Your youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your wealth before your poverty, your free time before you are preoccupied, and your life before your death.” (Narrated by Ibn Abbas and reported by Al Hakim)

Of these five, our health always seems to be a low priority. We have so much going on, we don’t think about taking care of our bodies until it’s too late, and we become ill. Or, it is difficult to see a doctor because of our busy schedules.

Now you can get a FREE health screening without even making an appointment.

Through a partnership with the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, Building Blocks will be offering biweekly checks of blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar as well as other common screenings. The screenings will be every other Monday, Oct. 16 through Dec. 1110:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Please see the flier below for details and sign up at sign up here: http://tinyurl.com/BBHEALTH2017. Walk-ins are also welcome.
